Biography

Rich Fields was born in Bay Village, Ohio in November of 1960. He spent his early childhood growing up on the west side of Cleveland, in the rural town of Avon. In 1976, at the age of sixteen, Rich and his family moved to Clearwater, Florida where he later graduated from Clearwater High School in 1979.

All through elementary and high school, Rich was the winner of many debate, speech and poetry competitions. At an early age it was clear that Rich would take his father's advice and make his future living with his mouth.

Rich's career inspiration came from listening to legendary announcer, Johnny Olson while watching Bob Barker on The Price Is Right in the early 70s. College plans were promising after Rich received two congressional appointments to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. However, Rich opted to pass on the military opportunity and enrolled instead at the University of Florida in Gainesville to study broadcasting, his real passion.

Rich is the recipient of the Red Barber Award for broadcasting excellence from the University of Florida where he holds a bachelor's degree in Broadcasting. Rich has also won numerous Addy awards for his work in radio production and commercial voice-over.

In addition to being a disc-jockey at over a dozen radio stations around the country, Rich was the show announcer at Universal Studios Hollywood, hosting and announcing up to twelve live shows a day, six days a week.

In the mid 90s, Rich landed the job as the announcer on the Florida lottery's Flamingo Fortune television game show (a Jonathan Goodson Production taped at Universal Studios, Orlando). It would be years later that his training on Flamingo Fortune and his tenure at Universal Studios would pay off with Bob Barker hand-picking him as the new announcer on The Price Is Right in April of 2004.

Rich Fields has been associated with CBS for thirteen of his twenty-five years on the air, most notably a ten year stint with KCBS-FM in Los Angeles. Rich also worked for the CBS/Infinity Radio group in Tampa, Florida and just prior to being named the new Price announcer, had been on the air working as the Chief Meteorologist at KPSP, CBS-2 in Palm Springs, California.
